Olorogun Oscar Ibru, a ubiquitous Nigerian businessman and the Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, has died at 67.

It was confirmed by family sources that he died after a short illness.

Ibru was born on August 11, 1958, and was the first son of the late Michael Ibru, the founder of the Ibru Organisation. He helped shape the conglomerate’s business portfolio over the years in Shipping, Real Estate, Oil and Gas, and Commerce, making the business group one of the most prominent in Nigeria.

This is certainly a significant loss to the Ibru dynasty, and the corporate landscape oin Nigeria. Colleagues and sympathisers noted Ibru was a person who expended so much energy in fostering the family legacy and in providing jobs and opportunities in different sectors.

Ibru was also deeply entrenched in philanthropic and socio-cultural advancement. He financed and promoted community development initiatives and cultural preservation efforts in Delta State and throughout the country.

Plans for his funeral are yet to be announced, although the Ibru family is expected to communicate those arrangements soon. Tributes have been streaming in from business leaders, politicians, and the general public who know him as a business innovator, philanthropic, and caring individual.

His death has left another void in the private sector and the civic domain. Many people believe that his legacy, both as an individual and for the Ibru family, will be passed down for many generations to come, in terms of their contributions to Nigeria’s corporate economy and society.
