The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for key politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to finalize their registration as the party begins a new recruitment process.

The call was led by the Adamawa state chapter of the party, who pointed out that some prominent Nigerians who have links to the ADC have not officially registered. Party leaders stated that the exercise’s goal is to promote inner harmony and have everyone working within a single framework.

For example, in Gombe State, the ADC introduced a digital portal designed to make registration easier and more secure. According to the party, the new system has improved security features, such as a more accurate identity verification for membership cards.

Amid reports of factional disputes, the ADC dismissed claims of a so-called “coalition of ADC,” insisting that only the main party structure is recognized by law. Party leaders stated that the current membership process is part of consolidation efforts of the party’s identity and a way of building value prior to the 2027 general elections.

This development comes as the ADC establishes itself as a key platform for opposition politics. With several politicians already gravitating toward the party, its leadership is working to expand its reach and establish a broader base of support.

Concurrently, the Obedient Movement raised concerns about party member actions, particularly when conditions for members to change parties were imposed. The movements also wanted clarification on zoning formulas and the processes of democracy internally within the ADC.

In response, party officials stated that well-known politicians such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi were granted waivers that allowed them to join the ADC after completing prior business from previous party dealings.

As the membership drive progresses, observers note that full participation by these influential figures will be critical. Their decisions are expected to determine how strong the ADC coalition becomes in the buildup to the 2027 elections.
